Wildlife Photographs

I went to two wildlife photography workshops at the weekend. The first was at the Cat Survival Trust in Welwyn and the second was at Hamerton Zoo Park near Huntingdon. The weather was quite gloomy at Welwyn and some of the smaller cats live in pens with a lot of vegetation to simulate their natural jungle environment which meant it was tricky to get any light on to some of the subjects.
Both workshops were organised by John Wright at Photographers On Safari.

I have been working my way through the images for the page header blocks and now have one for each page header.
After wasting a lot of time trying to do the portfolio section manually I have now built them using a plug-in called RapidAlbum. The results look good and are simple to set up and publish. Even better they can be maintained easily and the whole thing doesn’t have to be rebuilt if I add a new photograph.

Corporation Street

Went down to the city centre to look for ideas in the winter light after a bitterly cold but very clear day. I like the lights reflecting in the water and there is a contrast behind the old(er) side of the city on the right with some of the new build on the left.

A series of these went together well to make a joiner for my college project. Click the photo to see larger images on Flickr.

Nikon World

Nikon World at Olympia was disappointing; I had expected more of a kit show but the thing that made the trip worthwhile were the couple of shows that had been arranged for some practice. These are from the Chinese Acrobats and Ballerina presentations.

Q-Park

There are many new buildings in the city centre these days and one is a distinctive-looking car park. The outside is covered in metal panels at opposing angles and there are plenty of opportunities for light, shadows and reflections here.

This makes it a perfect opportunity for another ‘joiner’ photo. Click the photo to see larger images on Flickr.

I’ve decided to do this site so that I have somewhere to show my photographs for anyone who would like to see them. So far I am using the Modernity theme in Rapidweaver to knock around the layout until I see something I’m happy with. Most of the other elements are built using other plug-ins for Rapidweaver. Some bits were even tweaked by hand.
Doncaster races

Almost the last date in the season at Doncaster and I thought this would be a good opportunity to do some people-wtaching. it definitely was but I found it almost impossible to get the shots I had in mind without being noticeably close to the subjects.

Brodsworth Hall at night

Brodsworth Hall opens for a week each autumn to show the floodlit hall and gardens. I went the first night and it was cold and wet but their lights were so strong that the hall can be seen lit up from miles away anyway.
